Featuring one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Niagara Falls, NY is a popular destination for honeymooners and has a thriving tourism industry. Located in the Western New York region, it is part of the greater Buffalo-Niagara Metropolitan Area.
First discovered by Europeans in the 17th century, Niagara Falls was originally home to the Neutral Nation of Native Americans. The region was eventually overcome by European settlers and officially became the city of Niagara Falls in 1892. The potential for low-cost hydroelectric power drew many businesses, manufactures and drove the population to more than 100,000 by the early 20th century. Although many of the manufacturing jobs have moved on, the tourism industry continues to flourish.
